Kari Strandstra

Teacher

Transition Rm 1

I have been teaching in both preschools and elementary schools for fifteen years. I have attained a multiple subject CLAD teaching credential, Early Childhood Education units, and BA degree in Interdisciplinary studies. I have been a mentor teacher and attended many workshops and trainings for both the preschool and elementary level.  I have taught in a variety of schools with diverse age groups, from toddlers through third grade. Most of my teaching experience has been in the kindergarten and preschool settings. I love working with younger children where I feel a nurturing connection to them.

Throughout my years of teaching and experiences with different educational philosophies, I resonate most with the Reggio Emilia, child-centered philosophy. I am a believer in a collaborative, play-based, hand-on education where the learning is meaningful and authentic. I appreciate that every child is curious, capable and learns through creative exploration. I love observing, guiding and exploring alongside the children. My belief is that the social emotional well-being of a child is essential and I strive to help the children find the words to express what they are thinking/feeling so that they can have positive communication with others. Every child should be respected, honored for their unique selves and be surrounded in a positive, loving environment.

Having spent most of my life in San Diego, I currently reside in Crown Point. When not at Hanna, I enjoy walking at the beach, reading at the bay and enjoying time in nature. I also love seeing live music, cooking, gardening, spending time with friends and traveling to new places.

I am passionate about early childhood education where every day is filled with wonder, curiosity, fun and new experiences! It brings me great happiness to see the joy in a child’s eyes when he/she discover something new.  I find it to be extremely rewarding to be a positive impact in a child’s life. My goal is for every child to feel loved, nurtured and confident. I love being a part of the Hanna community and I am excited to start a new school year in Room 1 with the 3-day and Transitional Group!
