Our Curriculum
Young children learn by doing, therefore our curriculum is partly determined by the child's own interests. Learning is also expressed as exploring in order to discover personal meaning. To encourage this behavior, teachers initiate activities that are designed to expand children's interests. Teachers are also responsible for asking stimulating questions and for supplying information, materials and guidance.

The Center provides children an opportunity to investigate and use a wide variety of educational materials. The school curriculum includes:
- Creative Art
- Dramatic Play
- Cooking
- Science and Mathematics Experience
- Conversation Time
- Children’s Literature
- Poetry, Puppets, Finger Play
- Music
- Outdoor Play
- Field Trips
The goal of The Hanna Fenichel Center for Child Development is the total support of the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social growth of the children. Beginning with the first moment of separation and experience in the world outside of home, the school attempts to provide a secure child-centered environment to foster self-confidence and self-esteem. In addition the Center strives to:
- provide individual learning experiences appropriate to each child’s maturity level;
- support the rewarding and demanding process of parenting and establish close communication between home and school;
- develop the child’s ability to initiate and sustain relationships with other children and adults;
- encourage independent action, thought, and understanding of feelings and behavior;
- increase the child’s feelings of mastery through the presentation of creative, success-oriented activities; and,
- experience meaning and enjoyment in life through relationships with others.
We believe the above goals can best be attained in small classes with a high teacher-to-child ratio. We feel that it is this feature that distinguishes The Hanna Fenichel Center for Child Development from all other nursery schools.
